Adult Attachment Interview (AAI)
Information & Consent
About me
I am a clinical psychologist, a chartered member of the British Psychological Society (BPS, 467173) and fully registered with the British Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC, PYL30651). As part of my continuing professional development I am completing an advanced training in the Adult Attachment Interview (AAI).
Adult Attachment Interview (AAI)
The AAI is a semi-structured interview designed to explore your thoughts and feelings about early childhood experiences, particularly in relation to caregivers. The focus of the interview is on how you think about and make sense of these experiences. It is not an evaluation of your childhood, nor is it a ‘test’. There are no right or wrong, or good or bad, answers.
Purpose of the Interview
Delivering the AAI supports my professional development and training. While the interview focuses entirely on your thoughts and experiences, the purpose of the interview is to develop and assess my competence with the AAI protocol. Your participation helps to ensure that my learning is grounded in authentic experience.
As the study of attachment is a developing and empirical field, an anonymised transcript from your interview may also be used for research and training. This helps to refine clinical expertise and improve coder accuracy and reliability, while contributing to a growing body of research data.
